About SLO Spas & Sauna

Who We Are

SLO Spas & Sauna has been designing and hand-building saunas, cedar hot tubs and cold plunges on the Central Coast for years, and the crew behind it has been in custom building far longer than that. We are turn key: footings, framing, roof, electric, wood and the first fire. Most weeks that means a sauna installation in a house that was never drawn for one, and the occasional commercial sauna for a hotel or a tasting room. Fair pricing, a straight timeline, no runaround, and a finished room we are happy to put our name on.

Our mission

Build saunas so well made and so inviting that they become part of how you live, not a backyard box you stop using by fall. That holds whether the job is a custom sauna drawn from scratch or a tired room brought back by a straightforward sauna repair.

What we value

• Draw it first. You see a measured plan and a wood and heater recommendation before a single stud goes up.
• Real materials. Untreated western red cedar, hemlock, Nordic spruce, thermo-aspen and abachi — no laminates, no filler, nothing that turns sour when the room heats up.
• Built to actually work. Insulation, an unbroken taped vapor barrier, and intake and exhaust in the right places. That list is what separates a sauna from a hot cupboard.
• One name to call. Whoever draws your sauna is the same person steering it through permits, framing and the final coat.

Our crew

We are a compact crew of finish carpenters and sauna builders working out of San Luis Obispo, schooled in both Finnish and North American methods, which is why a traditional sauna from us throws real löyly rather than dry heat. Keeping the team small and the work under our own roof means the hands milling your cedar are the same ones hanging the door and stacking the stones. Most of us found this trade through our own habit of chasing heat and cold — a sauna after a Bishop Peak climb, a plunge after a cold session at Pismo — and it shows in the details we sweat: the curve of a bench, the pitch of a backrest, how a vent pulls clean on a gray coastal morning. Whether the room ends up an indoor sauna off the bathroom or an outdoor sauna at the end of the yard, the same hands build it. On commercial work we coordinate with architects, general contractors and county inspectors and build to commercial code, from ADA-compliant benches to group-capacity venting.
